MCAD presents Apichatpong Weerasethakul: The Serenity of Madness, a selected survey of rarely-seen experimental short films and video installations by the artist, alongside his photography, drawings, sketches, and archival material that explore threads of socio-political commentary. The exhibition is curated by Gridthiya Gaweewong and produced by iCI (Independent Curators International).
At the CCP, view Last Full Show: Danilo Dalena Retrospective, an exhibition that dispells that Dalena hibernated from art as it reveals suites of drawings and paintings only recently done even as the artist has been slowed by several health crises. Characteristic of Dalena’s signature affinity with the scatological and repellant, what could be of particular interest is his yet unfinished series of images referencing unseemly acts and antics in seedy movie houses.
The Metropolitan Museum of Manila features its landmark permanent exhibition The Philippine Contemporary: To Scale the Past and the Possible which charts the development of modern art – including the significant shifting tides in Philippine art history from the early 20th century to the present – and the vitality of contemporary art in the Philippines. Curated by well-known art critic and scholar, Dr. Patrick Flores, the exhibit encompasses a wide range of forms, from paintings, installations, visual culture and popular media such as comics, photography, film, and video. See also Shadow Forest: Encounters and Exploration, A Ronald Ventura Exhibition, a comprehensive display of Ventura’s most significant sculptures, prints, drawings and other works in the over 1,000 square meter ground floor gallery space.
