Dr. Kathryn Calley Galitz
Since the late 19th century, artists from Vincent Van Gogh to Andy Warhol have mined the expressive potential of portraiture. In their hands, the portrait has variously served as a vehicle for artistic experimentation, a statement of power, and a reflection of the enduring fascination with fame. The lecture is presented by Art Historian and Curator, Dr. Kathryn Calley Galitz and also features the work of contemporary painters and photographers who similarly push the boundaries of the genre.
Dr. Galitz is author of The Metropolitan Museum of Art: Masterpiece Paintings. The publication is available at Art Bar (6F, The Link) where a book signing event takes place from 7:30PM to 9:00 PM after the lecture.
