There has always been an intrinsic connection between art and mathematics. Isaiah Cacnio reminds us of this fluidity in his work for ArtFairPH/Digital: The Language of Infinity, an immersive digital projection of animated fractal art. To create these images, Isaiah uses fractals, or infinitely complex patterns that recur at progressive scales. They are created by repeating mathematical operations over and over in an ongoing loop.
Isaiah had to carve a different path to navigate the scene with this relatively new artform. “We need to push digital artists to believe in themselves, ” he said, advocating for platforms to strengthen the legitimacy and value of digital art in the Philippines.
