About the Artist

Petr Hajdyla is a painter, a graduate from the Studio of Painting 1 under Professor Daniel Balabán's at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ostrava. In his canvases, Hajdyla activates basal emotions in the viewer and induces a state of mind similar to lucid dreaming. In order to achieve this state, he combines the technique of organic and uncorrectable paint casting, on which he then builds a classical painting in countless layers. Hajdyla's work is urgent, but unlike the general trend in art, it appeals to the viewer in a positive sense. He has had numerous exhibitions in the Czech Republic and abroad and has won several art competitions.

The environment of the bohemian family he grew up in made him believe that creativity has no limits. He spent hours painting jungles, historical subjects, pirates and all sorts of scenes he found in encyclopaedias, animal atlases and adventure novels with fanciful illustrations. He obsessively plays with colour, contrast and texture to achieve a state where the painting rises to life and begins to communicate. He layers paint in the same way that he layers associations associated with the painted subject matter. He wants to transport himself and the viewer through painting to a point where reality loses its contours and find themselves in a magical scene. Although the canvases are inherently still, he like to think of them as objects full of movement, music and sound. The moment one stands in front of his painting, his goal is to draw the viewer in with color, engulf with plot, and transformed with insistently thought provoking associations.
